 Background Information

Inthe 2004/05 school year, Harmony Hill Primary School celebrated 40years of service to the local community with which strong links aremaintained. The school is perceived as being very much at the heart ofthe Lambeg area of Lisburn.

The school is situated on a pleasantsite on Harmony Hill and much of the local and school environment istree lined, the school site covering some 5 acres.

At January 2009, enrolment stood at 564 with an additional 52 part time pupils in the Nursery Unit.

In the 2009/10 year, we have 3 classes in each of the P1, P3, P4, P5 &P7 year groups and 4 classes in P2 & P6 year groups. Class sizes range from 29 down to 20 in other year groups.

We have a Principal, 22 full-time teachers and 5 part-time teachers in the school and Nursery.

In addition, special needs support is provided on 5 days each week.

We have a very committed and supportive Board of Governors who are proud of the school’s tradition of achievement delivered in a pastoral setting. The school enjoys exceptional support from the Parents’ Group who work very hard to organise a wide range of events each year, both social and fund raising, and who contribute to school funds every year.  The work of the Parents’ Group is much valued.

Parents are very supportive and their interest in the children’s learning is an important factor in the attainment levels in the school. Parents are involved in the life of the school as helpers for trips and at times assisting with classroom talks, sports coaching, teams and visits. Many parents are registered with us as parent volunteers.

Parents receive a school newsletter every Friday and receive information on children’s progress through information evenings, individual interviewsand an annual written report. Parents are also encouraged to discuss any concerns they may have with teachers at any time in the year.  Parents were consulted about the school’s new Anti Bullying Policy and responded positively. A Focus Group of Parents was invited to discuss and shape the policy and this proved a most successful approach.
