We currently have three P.5 classes in Harmony Hill. Our year is a fun-filled, action packed one with lots to do!

Curriculum

Maths - In addition to basic maths, we cover lots of interesting practical topics, such as length, time, fractions and weight.

English - The children have an opportunity to develop their literacy skills through a wide variety of activities.

Science - In P.5 we investigate and explore the following topics:

Natural Science - flowers/trees                          Shadows                          Materials                                                         Insects
Energy                                                       

History – The children thoroughly enjoy Early Man in Ireland, the Ancient Egyptians and the Maoris of New Zealand.

Geography – The children study the continents and oceans of our world, through lots of atlas work, with particular emphasis on Europe and the British Isles. In conjunction with our history topics, we also study Egypt and New Zealand.

Music – Our music programme is varied with lots of opportunity to compose, perform and listen to music. Everyone learns to play the recorder!

P.E – A varied programme of hockey, netball, gymnastics, dance and soccer is undertaken in the first two terms, while athletics are enjoyed in the summer term. 

R.E. – The following areas are covered:
Books of the Bible              Christian Festivals – Harvest, Christmas and Easter
The story of Moses              Jesus and His disciples

Activities – Each week the children attend a variety of activity clubs including cookery, art, technology, drama, needlework, calculator and maths games clubs.

I.T. – As well as using the computers in the classroom, the children also have the opportunity to visit our I.T. suite once a week, where a range of skills are taught and curricular activities pursued.

Personal Development – The children are encouraged through Circle Time and class discussions, to explore issues surrounding feelings, bullying, friendships and a healthy lifestyle.
