Welcome to P.6. We currently have four P. 6 classes in Harmony Hill. In preparation for our last year of primary school we enjoy lots of exciting, fun-filled learning activities, encouraging us to become more independent learners.
Curriculum
Numeracy – Through oral, practical and written activities we investigate topics such as number, measure, shape and space and handling data.
Literacy -
Talking and Listening
We have lots of class discussions and through Circle Time explore issues concerning feelings, friendships and bullying.

Reading
During the year we read a range of books for enjoyment, information and learning.
Writing
In P.6 you will be encouraged to write in a variety of ways, for example, newspaper reports, imaginative stories and poems. We also stress the importance of good spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
Science – We investigate and explore lots of interesting topics, including, the human body and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, birds and minibeasts, forces and movement and electricity. Imagine building your own electrical circuit!
History – We enjoy a ‘hands on experience’ while learning about the development of the linen industry in Lisburn. The Vikings topic really catches everyone’s imagination.

Geography – Through cultural diversity activities, we learn about the ever-changing society, in which we live, comparing life in Northern Ireland with that in Norway.
R.E. – Various topics are covered and we emphasise that it is important to have respect for God and for other people. We always get excited about performing in our class assembly.
Art – Art provides us with an excellent opportunity to express our creativity using a variety of different materials.
Music - We have a varied programme, which gives everyone the opportunity to compose, perform and listen to music.

P.E - In the first two terms hockey, netball, gymnastics, dance, swimming and soccer skills will be developed. In the third term we enjoy athletics.
I.C.T. - The use of computer hardware and software is integrated into many aspects of the curriculum. A range of skills will be taught using our classroom computers and those in the I.C.T. suite.
Activities – Each Wednesday we have an activity afternoon. There are a variety of activities to participate in including cookery, needlecraft, drama, art, French, personal development, choir, craft and technology.
Educational Trips and Visits – Learning is enhanced through trips to the Linen Centre in Lisburn and Castle Espie. We also experience many workshops in school on a variety of activities, for example, visiting drama groups, artists, musicians and historical characters.

After-School Activities – In P.6 you will have the opportunity to participate in a wider range of extra-curricular activities.
